Gary Dyer began serving as pastor of ABC on Easter Sunday of 2010 after fifteen years as pastor of First Baptist Church in Midland. He received his education from Dallas Baptist University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, fully focused on preparing to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. He met his wife, Teena, in the church he served as student minister. The two of them have served alongside each other since marrying in 1973. The Dyers have one son, Brent. Brent, his wife, Jill, and their two children, Blake and Kate, live in Houston where Brent serves as Pastor of Worship Ministries at Champion Forest Baptist Church. Gary is passionate about preaching and teaching God's Word and being a shepherd to the people of the church he serves.
Interim Associate Pastor for Outreach & Pastoral Care
David Procter was the first staff member to serve Austin Baptist Church, beginning March 2008. David is a Texan and a graduate of Baylor University (BA, PhD) and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (MDiv). David and His wife Selena met at Baylor. They have three grown children: Elisa, Andrew, and Adam (who is married to Sonya); all of them live in Austin. David has served on the staff of Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin, Travis Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Worth, and First Baptist Church of Lubbock. David shares, "Austin is a great place to live, work, and raise a family...yet it is also a great mission field that needs the witness and ministry of a Bible-believing church."
Music and Worship Associate
Dodie Morris and her husband, Bill, are charter members of Austin Baptist Church, where Dodie serves as the Music and Worship Associate. Dodie has a BME from Baylor University and a MME from Texas State University. She also holds a Level III certification in Kodaly pedagogy. Bill and Dodie have two children. Chris and his wife, Micki and daughters, Jewell and Ellie, live in Glen Rose, Texas. Annie and her husband, Tyler and sons, Austin and Tanner, and daughter, Jemma, live in Marshall, Texas. Dodie is passionate about communicating God’s love and purpose for us through music. She enjoys teaching, writing, traveling, singing, and playing a variety of musical instruments.
Minister to Students and Their Families
Matt Gillum joined the staff at ABC as Minister to Students and Their Families in May 2012. He earned his Master’s of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. He and his wife Adrian had their first child, Kate, in August 2013. His second child, Claire, was born in 2017. Matt’s passion in ministry is to see students gain a real understanding of the truth in Scripture and to apply that truth to their daily lives. He also has a desire to see students and their families grow in Christ as they worship and serve alongside one another. Matt and his family feel blessed to be a part of the ABC family and love ministering to the greater Austin community.
Minister to Children and Their Families
Kati Dobbs joined the ABC in May 2015. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Studies Education from Dallas Baptist University. Kati’s entire family are members at ABC. Kati feels so blessed to be able to minister to the children here and enjoys getting to see them walk with the Lord here at ABC.
Minister to Preschoolers and Their Families
Becky Sharp and her family started worshiping at Austin Baptist Church in 2016, and Becky joined the staff as Minister to Preschoolers and Their Families in 2018. Becky and her husband, Troy, met at Baylor University, where Becky earned her BA in Journalism with a minor in Telecommunications and MSE in Curriculum and Instruction. She taught in La Vega school district in Bellmead, TX and at Marymount School for Girls in New York, New York. Becky and Troy live in Great Hills and have two children, a son, James, and daughter, Turner. Troy teaches the 3 year-old Bible Fellowship Group, and Becky is active in the Women’s Ministry.
Executive Assistant to the Ministry Staff
Christina Mendoza joined the staff in 2014. She served for ten years as executive scheduler for the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, the Hon. Bob Bullock. For 13 years she served in several capacities for Dell Computer Corporation, including Manager of the Corporate Information Center. After Dell, Christina was Director of Operations for a local software engineering firm. She was a team leader of the Ceremonial Services department of the Constituent Services Division of the Office of the Governor, the Hon. Rick Perry, for over three years. For the past seven years prior to joining the ABC staff, she has managed a private individual’s family office and private foundation, with both domestic and international scope. Christina is married to Tony Mendoza; Tony works for the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services. They were married in 1996 and they have two daughters, Izzy and Elli. They live near the church and joined ABC in October 2013. Tony and Christina are faithful members of S.A.L.T. Bible Fellowship.
Rita Jones joined the staff in October 2012. She grew up in central Texas and graduated from Baylor University. She comes from a background of church office management at First Baptist Church, Rogers, TX; Immanuel Baptist Church, Temple, TX; Pond Springs Baptist Church, Great Hills Retreat Ministry Office, as well as Great Hills Construction Office, all in Austin, TX. Rita and her husband David have lived in the Austin area since 1971 and joined ABC in 2011. They have two sons, Scott and Jody, and five grandchildren.
Jennifer Koret joined the Finance Office at Austin Baptist Church in September 2012. A native of Killeen, Texas, Jennifer moved to Austin in 1994 to attend college and has been working in accounting roles since 1998, performing extensive bookkeeping and small business office management. She is also a Notary Public. Jennifer and her husband, Guy, proudly raise their children in the Cedar Park area. Jennifer enjoys spending much of her time off supporting her children in their extra-curricular activities.
Food Service Manager
Kim grew up in Victoria, Texas. She attended Baylor University earning an education degree with a concentration in recreation and leisure studies. Kim has more than 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry. Both her daughters, Carly and Shelby, are recent college graduates from the University of Mississippi
Director of Media Ministries
Joe Pere began serving as the Director of Media Ministries at ABC in August 2016. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and practices Environmental Engineering here in Austin. He and his wife Stephanie have been married since 2010 and have two children, Sarah and Benjamin. Joe is passionate about using technology to communicate God's word and strives to ensure that the worship experience is meaningful for everyone. He and his family live in North Austin and have been members of ABC since 2015.
Director of ABC Preschool
Robbie and her husband Wes, and their three children, Robert, Rachel and Russell are charter members of Austin Baptist Church. Robbie and Wes enjoy teaching single young adults in Bible Study on Sunday mornings. Robbie has been in Austin since the age of three and has loved raising her family here. She attended Baylor University and The University of Texas in Austin where she received a degree in Elementary Education. Robbie serves as the Director of Austin Baptist Preschool where children learn through experience and hands on activities. She says, "We are busy learning through our play and learning each day how much God loves us!
Derek and his wife Viki joined Austin Baptist Church in May 2008. Derek joined the church staff as the Facilities Manager on October 1, 2012. Derek holds a BA in Biology from The University of Texas at Austin. Derek and Viki have four children, Tyler, Stephanie, Austin and Tanner.
